Semtech Joins Euridis Association to Advance the Integration of LoRa® Devices with Leading Utility Standards

LoRa devices create Internet of Things (IoT) solutions that reduce waste and inefficiencies in utility networks

CAMARILLO, Calif., January 22, 2020 –  Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, announced it has joined the Euridis Association (Euridis), an international non-profit industry association promoting the development of standard protocols, such as device language message specification (DLMS) over low power wide area networks (LPWAN) for the utility industry. By joining Euridis, Semtech brings its expertise of the LoRa® devices and the LoRaWAN® protocol to the association’s members.

“Our mission is to enable the next generation of intelligent products, for the energy sector, with standardized networks and technology,” said Patrick Mortel, President of Euridis. “Semtech’s addition to our membership will enable closer collaboration and integration of its LoRa devices into new, interoperable and innovative utility solutions. Combining leading standards such as DLMS with LoRaWAN-based networking creates solutions that seamlessly integrate with other IoT applications to provide cost-saving efficiencies.”

The Euridis association’s main goal is to define and promote the use of industry standards for the design and operation of IoT products for utilities like smart meters & fault detectors.

In its 2019 reports*, IHS Markit predicts that total worldwide LPWAN connections are expected to rise to over 1.7 billion by 2023 with smart metering connections representing over 345 million of this total. Smart utility metering is one of LoRa devices’ proven and most successful applications and LoRa is predicted to represent up to 35 percent of all LPWAN-based smart metering connections in 2023. LoRa devices and LoRaWAN networks can help bring customers a better return on investment (ROI) and offer several advantages for utility metering applications including ease of deployment, scalability by number of gateway, long range connectivity, low power consumption, and real-time data monitoring for utility usage analysis and waste reduction.

“In joining Euridis, Semtech aims to leverage the association’s expertise and drive the continued growth and utilization of LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN protocol for the competitive utility metering market,” said Rémi Demerlé, Director of Vertical Marketing for Utilities in Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “Engineered with simplicity and ease-of-use in mind, LoRa devices offer a proven solution set for LPWAN-based IoT, and Euridis’ emphasis on simplicity and standardization should facilitate the expansion of LoRa devices into smarter, interoperable applications.”

About Euridis Association

Euridis members are leading manufacturers, utilities and software companies in the energy sector (TSO, DSO). Several technical committees have been created since 2003 to manage the evolution of the standard. In 2018, Euridis created a specific committee focusing on the integration and deployment of LoRaWAN-based solutions and networks using DLMS.
